Most Used

What it is

Most Used is a category that builds itself. It sits at the top of your category list, ahead of every category you made yourself, so holding the NVDA key and turning the dial starts there. It contains the items you've activated most often in the last 30 days.

How it tracks usage

Every time you launch an item, the add-on records the activation with a timestamp. The Most Used category looks at activations from the last 30 days and ranks items by how many times you've launched them. The top 10 appear in the category, in order from most-used to least-used.

Activations older than 30 days are dropped automatically, so the list stays current as your habits change. If you stop using an item, it will fall down the list and eventually disappear from Most Used entirely - even if you used to use it constantly.

What counts as an activation

Anything you launch through the add-on counts: websites, folders, files, applications, radio stations, snippets, NVDA commands, workspaces, and individual items inside a workspace.

Three kinds are left out on purpose, because none of them opens anything and any of them could be used all day without your real launching habits changing: help pages, clocks, and entries in your clipboard history.

When you activate a workspace, both the workspace itself and each of its members get an activation recorded. This means a frequently-used workspace member will appear in Most Used on its own merits, not just buried inside the workspace.

Can I edit Most Used?

No - it's automatically built from your activation history, so there's nothing to edit directly. If you want certain items at the top of the list, just use them more. If you want an item gone, stop using it and it'll drop off after 30 days.

Turning it off

If you would rather not have it at all, clear the Show Most Used category check box on the Add-on Settings tab and it goes from your category list. Nothing else changes: your activations are still recorded, so ticking it again brings the category back with everything it had learned. The Help category has a check box of its own beside it, on the same tab.

Demo data on first install

When you first install the add-on, Most Used is seeded with some sample activations so you can see the feature working immediately. After about a week of normal use, the demo data will have aged out and Most Used will reflect only your real usage.
